3 D Pop Out Technique

2010

By Cindy Cade

First you will need to find a “Nestability” circle die that will cover the inside portion of your Spellbinder’s “Shapeability” Sunflower die.

The idea is to keep it from cutting all the way to the center so the petals can flip up.

Just lay the circles on your die until you find the correct size.

Then use this circle to cut holes in 3-5 pieces of cardstock to use as your cutting mask.

I used 4 fairly thick pieces of cardstock to make my cutting mask. I also taped these pieces together so they wouldn’t go off center while cutting.

Lay the mask over the flower shape and you will see that ALL of the die’s petals have cutting edges within the circular window.

Shim to approximate thickness for your die cut machine.

Add your plate and run through your machine to cut.

This takes a bit of trial. Be sure you go thin and work your way up. ‘Too thick and you will get stuck.

After cutting simply pull up the petals and curl on a pencil or other round object, and or emboss if you like. The possibilities are endless.

On the sample you will see that I cut out a smaller sunflower 3 D Pop-Out as well. I then cut around it with a scallop Nestability. The other flowers are actual punched shapes.

Now show me see what you can do!

Etha,
I am waiting on the eCraft but may go with another electronic if they don't get the machine going soon. I thought it would be easy to do this type of thing on one too. I can see creating entire card gardens to cut with these in one pass and then adding stamping and such. Too much fun!
For those with die cutters I have called Spellbinders requesting them to think of deep petal flowers such as daisy and chrysanthemum shapes that could be used with or without this technique. Again, very fun!

What a cool idea Cindy! I don't have any of those flower dies, but I might come up with something similar on the cricut ;) thanks for the tutorial!
