The Road Signs are at the top of this map.  You will find a Mother Load of comprehensive Tutorials in easy-to-find list form at your fingertips.  You'll never have to dig through archives to find something here on the Road!  Don't forget...make a Pit Stop at Small Fry Cafe & Die-Cut Diner, too; they are serving up the best tidbits & delights!  Feel free to print them all out and start your own Book of Tutorials!

The Rubber Road presents

2012 SPRING FLING EDITION
This month, we'll help you revive dead paper laying in your stashes with Rubber Roadies Tutorials on...
TRANSFORMING UGLY PAPER

FAUX SUEDE TECHNIQUE ~ TRANSFORMING UGLY CARDSTOCK
by Debi Wind

Debi Wind zeros in on another perfect solution to glamorize ugly, solid color cardstock.  With this Faux Suede Technique, you will create a velvety look in a variety of eye-catching colors.

STEAMPUNK CLOCK CARD ~ TRANFORMING UGLY PAPER
by Debi Wind

For this Edition most designers have selected ugly patterned paper choices to work with. Debi Wind demonstrates how to transform ugly cardstock in solid colors.

PAPER QUILT CARD ~ TRANSFORMING UGLY PAPER
by Nancy Leimer

Paper Quilting is an excellent way to use up ugly paper and scraps.  It's, also, good practice in learning how to coordinate colors and patterns.  Nancy Leimer has just the right project to help you learn these techniques.

The Rubber Road is proud to introduce guest mixed media artist, Nicie Ibarra from IL.  Nicie is a new member subscriber to the E-Zine whose work was quickly spotted in our galleries.  Her work is an impressive treat, and we believe you'll agree!  Please welcome...

Her featured presentation:

"ART EVERYDAY" MIXED MEDIA CANVAS WALL HANGING

Transforming Ugly Paper

by Nicie Ibarra

SEASHELL JOURNAL ~ TRANSFORMING UGLY PAPER
by Nicie Ibarra

Producing a journal with Nicie Ibarra will give you nothing short of fun when putting it all together. She continues with using out-dated mosaic paper as her base. The journal covers are constructed from recycled cereal boxes. The vellum is a perfect backdrop for stamped and heat embossed shell images. The finale includes randomly stringing beads and shells onto wire and looping them into place for a sparkling effect.

CONTEMPO CARD ~ TRANSFORMING UGLY PAPER
by Judy Cantrell

A bold sheet of Mayan patterned cardstock gets a re-make into a soft, comtemporary card and birthday salutation.

ATC ~ TRANSFORMING UGLY PAPER
by Suzanne Saupe

Ugly, out-dated designer paper is washed out, yet makes a fresh come-back in this Flowery ATC by Suzanne Saupe.

ALTERED BOTTLE~TRANSFORMING UGLY PAPER
by Suzanne Saupe

Besides Paper Crafts, Suzanne Saupe has another use for ugly paper.  She has altered and glamorized a castaway glass bottle that is fit to give your favorite person.

STEAMPUNK CARD~TRANSFORMING UGLY PAPER
by Judy Cantrell

You will surely agree that Judy's paper was ugly, but you'd never it know it now! The transformation to an appealing card even surprised her! This project stands as a testament that there is nothing you can't do with ugly paper.

TILDA & BUNNY TRANSFORMING UGLY PAPER
by Peggy Wilkins

Do you shy away from papers that appear too busy and have clashing colors? This card masterpiece not only incorporates Transforming Ugly Paper, but is loaded with other techniques as well.  You will learn an "Out of Bounds" trick on what to do when an image doesn't quite fit inside the die shape.  Paper Piecing will create custom clothes for stamped images, and Tilda models hers with pure cuteness.  Handmade flowers are all the rage now, and this project demonstrates how to create a Rolled Felt Rose. Circle Punch-Its form a colorful and easy border.  Study the Copic Coloring for placement of color, shadows, and light.  Creating a card like Tilda and her bunny is fun, special, and rewarding!  Best of all, you will learn how to use up any ugly paper in your stashes and make your own showpieces!

TILDA'S SWING TAG
by Peggie Wilkins

Most tags are designed single sided, but Peggie Wilkins has put a new spin on this tag. The front side of the tag features a view of Tilda's sweet cottage home. Swing the tag clockwise to reveal a second tag, and Tilda surprises you with a welcome flower!  Be sure to take a peek at the tutorial for an inside view.

For a Pit Stop, let's see what Sue is dishing up at the Small Fry Cafe...

It's a lot of Small Fry goodness packed into the Altoid Tin loaded with dazzling bling & bellies.  Sue will have you shopping at local thrift stores searching for mini treasures to use in art work.

2012 FLYING HEARTS EDITION

It's the annual Flying Hearts Edition here on Route 66.  Watch out, the hearts are flying everywhere and maybe pizza pie, too.  They're headed your way along with the antics of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.  The Roadies Design Team has special hearts & techniques to share with you, too.  Keep checking back for new published works.  If you don't see all the fun, perhaps a pair of those 3D glasses would come in handy!

A variety of butterflies come together to adorn a lavish tag drenched in Distress Inks by Judy Cantrell. A Kraft Glassine Flower is the final bling for an impressive quality that sets the mood.

PAPILLON TAG with KRAFT GLASSINE FLOWERS
by Judy Cantrell

Kraft Glassine Paper is a natural element for constructing earthy flowers.  It holds its shape and crinkly texture without much effort on the crafter's part.

While using Distress Ink on a tag for background effects is a trendsetter effect,  Designer Suzanne Saupe took it to the next level by applying Lumiere paint by Jacquard as well. This tag would be suitable for weddings or a gift topper.

RECYCLED WOOD MOUNTS

An Introduction to RECYCLED WOOD MOUNTS
by Lizabeth Lee

Learn the basic techniques and tips for Recycled Wood Mounts. This segment includes removing foam based rubber stamps from the wood block plus the easiest way to remove that sticky adhesive.

RECYCLED WOOD MOUNTS - SNOWMAN FAMILY
By Debi Wind

One of the best things about Snowmen themes is that they aren't limited to the Christmas season. They have longevity beginning with Autumn and lasting until Winter wanes. That's quite a few months to enjoy them. Still, it's fun to craft them any time! With Debi Wind's rendition, you would hardly recognize that this Snowman Family is constructed with Recycled Wood Mounts!

I am among the very last people to take down the Christmas Decorations.  I hate to see all the Holiday Glitz come to an end and usually leave them in place well after New Year's Day!  So it is with the Rubber Road, and we'll leave all the Christmas Magic in place a little longer.  If you're anything like me, you might even enjoy working on Christmas projects year round or find inspiration for non Christmas crafting.  We have a Sister Yahoo Group for just this purpose.  We enjoy sharing TNT (tried n true) recipes, too, as well as other holiday or special occasion crafting links.

This year marks our 9th anniversary, and you are invited to join us at:

Merry Makers

Enjoy!
